Galileo Testing

Galileo testing was hardest this quarter for the eighth graders. Everyone tried their best, but it was still too hard. They should make the test easier so students can do better on it. The easiest test was the writing. Most students did better on that test.

There is graffiti on the school walls and equipment. People that do all of this do not know the consequences. They don't know that they can go to juvie and they will not be accepted in any school with a bad record. So please don't tag at our school. It is damaging our school and making it look bad.

Cold Winter Days

At Harris we have decided to bring little blankets to school. Some people might think it's really stupid but to us it isn't. It keeps us really warm and cozy. And we don't really care what people think. After this, people will start bringing blankets and we think they should too. So you can be warm.

Our Activities

Our school activities here at Harris Elementary School are great. There are a lot of different sports. The sports here are soccer, baseball, basketball, flag football, and there’s even cheerleading and I think track. There’s more too, but those are the ones that I know only.

How do we know that there’s sport here at the school? Well the principal here at the school does announcements and she announces the sports. She says where, when, and at what time the tryouts are going to be.You should come to Harris and tryout for one of the sports and you will like them. But come and join one of these activities or sports here at Harris school before the season ends of your favorite sport.

If some people asked their parents or other family members they would know that even though it could be the first time you have seen Harris, different people in their lives have different stories from when they were young here. My family has had a lot of children attend this school. Imagine being old and being able to watch children and grandchildren attend Harris and knowing they will have as much fun as you did playing on the playground and running around the field.

Why We Deserve a Longer Recess

Ever since the food fight they changed our schedule. We used to have lunch with the 8th and 7th graders, but since that day they separated us all. Now we have lunch with the kindergarteners and one 8th grade class. And recess is short and boring now. Now we don’t get to see all of our friends. So we need to improve our behavior and make the principals make it the way it was. All we need to do is pay attention and follow the rules. Before the school year ends we're going to be having lunch the way it was.

School Dance

The student council is planning on having a school dance. And we have to improve our behavior in order to make this happen. The school dance is what we hope to have that doesn’t include the k-5 kids. It’s really simple. All we have to do is line up and keep quiet. If we have good behavior long enough they’ll let us have the dance maybe a longer recess. And before you know it all the 7th and 8th graders are eating together again. It just needs time.

Recess is too short

The problem at this school is recess! This recess is so short that we only get 15 minutes to play. We get 10 minutes to eat. After lunch we go into class for 4-5 hours with no break and it’s so boring! The recess should be longer and we should have more time to eat.

Nothing But Concrete!

This basketball season at Harris the girls and boys basketball team have to play on concrete. There are a lot of things wrong with this. First of all, it can be very dangerous because basketball can be very aggressive and people could fall and get hurt. Also, our games will be starting around 4:00pm or 4:30pm and by the time the game starts it will be dark and cold outside. Another thing is that our basketball shoes will get messed up because the concrete will mess up the grip on our shoes. This solution can be fixed by having our school raise money to build an inside gym. We could have car washes. What are your ideas?

Substitutes at Harris

Having substitutes at school is nothing new to our class. We have substitutes like every other day. This past week we had a certain substitute that just thought she ran our whole school, which she didn’t. She was going in and out of all the 8^th grade classes disrupting there learning time, and just getting there students in trouble. I was like oh my goodness I think they can manage there class. We were not allowed to talk nor were we allowed to get up to do anything without her permission. She was treating us like babies. She was always telling us we got a strike. Everyone knows her by “The teacher that gives strikes.”

Harris library is small. If we had a big library and more books then it would be better. The old books are not cool. I think they are too childish. It is an old library and we need new books. The people in the library are cool.

The Best Thing That Happened At Harris

The only good and fun thing Harris had was the Fall Festival. A lot of people went. It was fun because kids had costumes and everything! They had a DJ , food, games, and other things. It was so fun because people were dancing. Then some one had a cake fight and it was fun. People won prizes like my friend luis won the limbo. But they should have other fun things to do at Harris, but that’s the only thing for now.

Ms Valentine-German Selling Water

Miss VG is selling water in room 39. She is selling the water after PE, recess and afterschool. The water costs 50 cents for room temperature and one dollar for cold water. After a tiring and hard workout you will need some refreshing water so stop by Mss. VGs classroom at almost any time. You’re always welcome there. Students and teachers can stop by. This movement of selling water has been approved by Mr. Salcedo and Dr. Martinez. Stop by soon see you then.

Opinion: Friends Apart

Here at Harris Elementary new teachers were hired and the students were separated and the students think it is not fair. They also separated our lunch and our recess. We are not able to see our friends and that is not fair so all of the students want to change were we are and I think we could do something about this. They say that we come to learn, well that is wrong. We also come to see and meet new friends and we are ready to fight for what we had and that is what I would vote on.

Every one in the school participates in the classes and specials. The classes in school are math, reading, writing, social studies, science, language arts and the specials in school are P.E., art, music, photo journalism and library. The classes and specials are held all over the campus so everybody can participate. The classes happen every day and the specials have a day for it to happen. I think it’s important to have classes and specials so we can learn and participate in different things.

There has been tagging at Harris K8 elementary school. We should all try to learn how to tag. I don’t consider it being bad because I tag. I consider it an art. Even if some people use it to be bad.

New Lunch Schedule

Well let me tell you people a little bit about our lunch schedule. Our lunch schedule is boring and we don’t like it because we don’t have enough time to eat our lunch or for our recess. We have less than 15 minutes and the lunch takes away from our recess time and only two classes come out and we don’t get to see all our friends in recess. It is so boring and there is nothing to do at all.
